“Read & Ride A Horse” For Kids!
Saturday One-Day Workshop at Old McDonald’s Farm, Inc.

Join Old McDonald’s Farm, Inc. (a non-profit, children’s program) for a One-Day Workshop!

At the “Read & Ride A Horse” Workshop., learn how to “read” a horse and what equine are thinking. They are big animals; it is important to know how to read them and to not get hurt. Explore the health and feeding needs of different equine (horses, donkeys, ponies and miniatures). Discuss waste and mud management, predators and pests, horse housing, “no hoof-no horse,” proper grooming techniques, etc. Plus, have a short horse riding lesson as well. Meet our other Farm Program animals such as geese, ducks, chickens, rabbits, cats, dogs, pig, goats, sheep, and our cow also. This class is taught by an Oregon State Certified Teacher with 3 decades of farm animal experience and 5 decades of equine experience. Come see and learn at our beautiful, educational Farm Program in Corbett (just past Troutdale). We are located just twenty-five minutes east of downtown Portland.

For students in 3rd-8th grades.

Five students required to run this program. Please ask your friends & family to join you. Ten students maximum. Saturday One-Day Workshops fill up fast!
Participants must be able to lift themselves up onto a horse by themselves. We will assist for safety but the student must be able to follow our mounting/riding instructions and have the strength and stamina to mount a horse on their own.

Please bring:

  • Sack lunch, snacks (long day), & water bottle
  • Horse riding or bike helmet
  • Long pants (no shorts or capri pants)
  • Jackets (Corbett is cool in the mornings)
  • Hiking or riding boots (running shoes are not safe)
  • Well fitted riding or “garden gloves”
  • You must have your bangs, “wispies” and all hair pulled back and pinned down. It is not safe for any hair flopping in your face. Do not forget, you have to get your helmet over your hair!
  • No mobile phones allowed please.

Our OMF, Inc. Bus Times are 8:20 & 4:30. No bus, then please find directions at www.OldMcDonaldsFarm.org and enjoy the drive along the Columbia Gorge. Located 25 minutes east of downtown Portland.

$109 per student and $15 for our safe and secure Bus both ways, so $15 total.

You must be an adult and over the age of 18 to fill out this registration information below. Only adults can register their child that is under the age of 18.

Unless OMF obtains the container with preprinted, pharmacy instructions and a written release and instructions from you we cannot dispense any prescription medications. For nonprescription medications, we must have a written note with instructions, date and signature of parent or guardian along with original container. Please do not give any medications directly to the student to be taken while at OMF to ensure that another child does not come in contact with your medication. Your understanding is appreciated!

I hereby grant OMF, Inc. the right to use forever any film, video, audio, photographs, slides or combination thereof, for inclusion in any promotional or advertising purposes of OMF, Inc. and my child agrees to appear without pay. The above-named student may participate in any of the programs offered this year at Old McDonald’s Farm, Inc. (OMF, Inc.). I have the authority to act on this student’s behalf and I release OMF, Inc. and its representatives from liability in the event of accidental injury or illness. I give my permission for this student to receive emergency medical treatment. I accept full responsibility for any expense incurred in providing medical treatment for this child. I understand the inherent risks of working on a farm, in a garden, in nature, with farm animals and including working with and riding horses.

I, the Parent/Guardian of the aforementioned student, accept the terms and conditions of the General Waiver.

Your funds have been spent and are put towards the care and feeding of our 30 ‘teaching tools,’ our Farm Program animals. If you are unable to join us for a program class or an event in which you signed up and paid, then you can take these funds as a tax-deductible donation to our non-profit, children’s charity. Please let us know in advance so we can open it up to another family and then afterward, we will send you via the mail, a donation thank you for tax purposes. OMF, Inc. is a small non-profit, children’s program and we do not have the funds to return to you nor the staff to handle the extra administrative work. Please note: WE DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS!
