Saturday One-Day Workshop 2023
Each season, we at Old McDonald’s Farm, Inc., offer one or two Saturday One-Day Workshop(s). OMF, Inc. is a non-profit, children’s charitable organization. These programs offer a variety of topics that are of interest to “our kids” and are equally good for first timers as well as alumni students that want to brush up on the topics. Either way, come learn at and enjoy our beautiful, educational Farm Program and see all our “educators,” our 30+ Farm Program animals such as horses, donkey, pony, goats, sheep, pig, geese, ducks, chicken, dogs and cats. We look forward to you joining us!
The Saturday One-Day Workshop(s) are taught by an Oregon State Certified Teacher with over 40 years of livestock experience. As a non-profit, children’s program we have educational goals to “teach and reach” children and youth with farm animals, agriculture, gardens and rich, natural resources.
Please wear long pants (even if it is hot out) layers (you will need a jacket in the mornings), sturdy tied-on boots and have well-fitted, leather work gloves. Please bring a water bottle and a sack lunch. Please clip your bangs back tightly and use a hair tie to secure your hair back. Girls or boys are not allowed to have hair flopping in their faces for safety while working with large or small animals and including horses. Pull your hair back and pin it down or wear a ball cap.
So sorry for the inconvenience, but similar to many other companies, we are having trouble finding skilled staff to hire. We are therefore not offering our OMF, Inc. bus to transport students for the Saturday One-Day Workshop(s). Enjoy the lovely drive out east along the Gorge to Corbett. We are located 15 minutes from Troutdale, 20 minutes from Gresham and about 30 minutes east from downtown Portland.
“Total Horse Makeover,” Saturday One-Day Workshop, May 12, 9:00-3:30. $89 per student. For students in 3rd-8th grades. No Bus!
Get the horses ready for the season by learning to: “read” a horse and know what they are thinking, be safe around a horse, groom a horse, trim bridle paths, de-worm them, pick their feet, haltering, leading and handling a horse and then lastly, lunging a horse, pony or donkey.
Jr. Vet. Equine (Horse) Saturday One-Day Workshop, September 16, 9:00-3:30. $99 per student. For students in 4th-9th grades. No Bus!
This class will include lessons in health, housing and feeding needs of horses and ponies. If you have ever thought about becoming a Veterinarian or a Vet. technician, then this is the class for you. Learn the diagnostic plan that Vets. use to determine a treatment plan. Learn how to maintain health, the lifespan and life stages of the animals, how to de-worm them, the K.I.S.S. principle and more.
