Our Mission

What we are: Old McDonald’s Farm, Inc. (OMF) is the only nonprofit organization in Oregon that effectively combines animals, agriculture, gardens and natural resources to provide an educational enrichment program for all children and including at-risk children and youth in a safe and secure farm setting.

Our mission is: “In facilitating healthy social and emotional development, OMF is committed to providing at-risk protective factors to children through structured, educational experiences using animals, agriculture, gardens and natural resources as educational tools.” We are not necessarily teaching children to be farmers, but rather using a farm to teach wholesome, healthy life lessons.

Our assets: All of our programs utilize our 68-acre farm including our 30+ farm animals, to instill in children a sense of connection, compassion and consequences. We have taught over 20,000 students since we began serving children in the autumn of 1996.

Other lessons: Hands-on, meaningful lessons in biology; zoology; animal and agricultural husbandry; care and nurturing; life-cycles and interconnectedness of all living things; commercial uses of animals and plants; recycling and composting are all taught in a safe and structured way. Additionally, academic pursuits in world geography; history; calculation; estimation; measurement; reading; writing; and speaking are all woven into the daily activities as well. All OMF programs are designed to help teachers meet state and federal educational requirements.

Our mailing address is P O Box 326, Corbett, OR 97019 or our physical address is 1001 SE Evans Rd, Corbett, OR 97019. We are open by appointment only. We thank you. We recommend that you not use MapQuest or Google Map for our directions as those are incorrect and send folks down the wrong roads.

***New: Once you turn right into our driveway with the address sign on the left make sure the row of trees is on your right…trees on your right…trees on your right…trees on your right. (The driveway before ours will have the trees on the left and that is wrong and not our driveway.) Please do not drive down the driveway with trees on your left.

From Interstate-84:

• Take Corbett exit #22 off Highway I-84. From Portland, the exit is past Gresham, Troutdale and Lewis & Clark State Park or from Hood River it is after Multnomah Falls.
• From Portland, take a right off exit at stop sign. From Hood River, take left off exit at stop sign. Travel 1.4 miles up to the end of Corbett Hill Road to “Y” and take right side of “Y” to the stop sign. Do not turn down
  Chamberlain halfway up the hill or turn on any other road until you get to the top at exactly 1.4 miles.
• From that stop sign, travel 100 feet (on Historic Columbia River Highway for 100 feet only) and take left on to Evans Road.
• Go exactly 1.2 miles down Evans Rd. and take right on to OMF’s driveway. Look for the ‘yellow caution tractor crossing’ sign, fire hydrant, and the ‘25 mph caution’ sign at the head of our driveway. Turn right immediately after these. Look for the large, wooden address sign with ‘1001 S.E. Evans Rd’ and turn right on to the driveway before the address sign and after the perpendicular row of trees. The long row of trees along the driveway should be on your right.

From Gresham:

• Head east on Stark Street. From the intersection of Stark and Troutdale Road go 1.9 miles to the Stark Street Bridge and the Historic Columbia River Highway.
• Take a right on to the Historic Highway and travel 2.6 miles to the town of Springdale. (Do not turn right on Hurlburt Road immediately after the yellow flashing light. Stay on the Historic Highway.)
• From the flashing yellow light in Springdale travel 9/10 of a mile and take a right off the Historic Highway on to Smith Road. (The Historic Highway veers left and you actually travel straight on to Smith Road.)
• Travel just over one mile to the end of Smith Road and take a right on to Evans Road.
• Go exactly .2 miles (2/10) down Evans Rd. and take right on to OMF’s driveway. Look for the ‘yellow caution tractor crossing’ sign, fire hydrant, and the ‘25 mph caution’ sign at the head of our driveway. Turn right immediately after these. Look for the large, wooden address sign with ‘1001 S.E. Evans Rd’ and turn right on to the driveway before the address sign and after the perpendicular row of trees.
