The Jr. Vet. Baby Piglet Program is all about porcine.
The first mini pig breed developed in the United States was the Minnesota Miniature, which emerged in the 1940s and is now extinct.
In the 1960s, Vietnamese Pot-bellied pigs that grew up to 200 pounds were sent to zoos in Western cities and were used for medical research. These comparatively smaller pigs were easier to work with than larger pig breeds, which typically reach weights of 600 pounds or more.
It will be quite a treat to have a new baby pig. Learn how to house, care for, feed and maintain the health of a baby piglet. This program class is all about pigs but we will have many opportunities to meet all of our Farm Program animals (including horses) and learn from them also. Students will enjoy an in-depth study of this domesticated animal. This is an academic and skill building class and is taught by an Oregon State Certified Teacher with over 40 years of experience with livestock.
